UNDERSTANDING THE BUSINESS
For the competitor analysis, 3 editorials were analyzed: Vice, Urbanshit, and UpMagazine that our user persona already reads. Then these were organized on a market positioning map to spot the magazine concept in the best place.
The competitors resulted to be more PROVOCATIVE while
Aerosol magazine concept to be more INNOVATIVE.
UNDERSTANDING THE USER
USER PERSONA: Most digital magazine readers are well-educated, young, and upper-middle class. Recent studies indicate that they are part of the so-called Millennials.
Paula is 19 years old. She wants to be an artist and connect with people around the world.
She reads voraciously, everywhere, anywhere. In bed, public transportation, etc.
GOALS
Read the most influential artists to be cool and belong.
Have her first expo soon to start being "someone" in the art scene.
"I love to read about the world's latest art
news so I do not miss any new trends".
BUILDING A CONCEPT
The magazine was ideated for the user to find the latest and more popular articles about her top interests quickly so she can read everywhere she wants. Articles are not very long but consistent so she can read many of them in a short period and get a fulfilling knowledge on the topic.
A Mood Board was created to perform a desirability test and it showed that the concept is on the right path to define the visuals.
USER FLOW
To plot the user flow, first, I defined the user's journey. Paula can select between the sections Top Articles and Top News so she can find the main interests quickly or she can just find articles by topic, then read the article and maybe support the art scene by buying an article in the online shop so she would wear it in an art exhibition and feel that she belongs.
VISUALS
The interface expresses the innovative aspect of the digital product, the very bright/neon colors on a black background, makes the brand look completely different compared to the competitors' visuals: white background, black text, and maybe one other color.
